John’s Bio

After facing hardships as a young man that could have permanently derailed his life, John Houston has become a respected and successful business owner who views his companies as a vehicle to reach people for Christ and support ministries around the world. He is the Founder and Chairman of the Board of John Houston Homes, a homebuilding company that started in 2005. Since that time, he has started five additional companies which make up the JH Family of Companies including a mortgage company, a land-development company, a title company, and an insurance company.

During his journey of building these businesses, John has stayed true to his core belief of putting Christ first, family second and work third. This has created a company culture and brand that is excelling at the highest level.

In 2021, John launched Suit and Shepherd, a company dedicated to helping other Christian business owners and CEO’s develop themselves and their companies to live out the same purpose of reaching people for Christ and giving to the Kingdom.

John is the author of Finding My Way Home: A Journey to Discover Hope and a Life of Purpose (Forefront Books, April 20, 2021). In the book John reflects on how God has created a story with his life. He shares the trials, hardships, and painful mistakes in his life through the lens of gratitude for God’s enduring faithfulness and love and offers hope for others who want to discover a life of purpose

He is also the author of Trust and Follow: Learning to be CEO of a God-Owned Business (Forefront Books, September 12, 2023). John shares the wisdom he’s gained about what it means to say yes to God, particularly in business decisions, even when the request makes no sense and the path forward is unclear and uncertain. And he hopes that his story will encourage you to reflect on your own life, to see and appreciate the many ways God has proved to be faithful and trustworthy in your past, present, and in the days to come.

He is a graduate of Southwestern Assemblies of God University with a bachelor’s degrees in Business Administration and his favorite, an associate degree in Bible. He serves on several local non-profit boards, including his alma mater, and Oaks Church.

John has been married to his beautiful wife, Tracy for over thirty years, and they are the parents of two young adult kids, Austin and Ashtyn. They live outside of Dallas and enjoy eating great Tex-Mex food, spending time outdoors, and traveling on adventures together as a family.
